Can’t find delicious halloumi cheese? You can also use Saganaki or Bread Cheese.

When cooking with tallow or lard, it is very important to use a splatter guard. The fat spits and can burn you as well as coat your kitchen.

This keto fries recipe makes four serves. One serving is about six fries with sauce and has 1g net carbs.

Halloumi Fries Ingredients

  • 8 ounces of Halloumi Cheese

Use our Low Carb Marinara Sauce for dipping.

How To Make Halloumi Fries

  1. Slice the halloumi into fries at least 7mm/0.3in thick and sit on a paper towel to dry.
  2. Place the tallow into a large non-stick frying pan and place over medium to high heat. You want the tallow to be around 170C/340F.
  3. Gently add the halloumi pieces. I suggest using a pair of tongs as the tallow will spit hot fat.
  4. Once all the halloumi is added, cover the pan with a splatter guard.
  5. Cook the halloumi for 2 minutes on each side until golden brown and crunchy.
  6. Serve with a side of Low Carb Marinara Sauce for dipping.

Olive oil works. This is a brilliant recipe. Thank you!! For those of us who miss a side order of fried potatoes, or “Chips” as we call them in England… and are on a KETO diet… This is a real winner!!

  2. Can I use butter instead of lard?

    Reply

    • Hi Miriam,

I don’t recommend butter, as the milk solids will burn before the halloumi gets crispy. You could use tallow, coconut oil, or avocado oil instead.

    • Hi Tania,

Yes they will, they might take on a slightly coconutty flavor though 🙂

    • Just made them with coconut oil since I had so much relative to a small amount of beef tallow. I loved the flavor they took on, not over powering at all- to me
