Hot chocolate bombs are so popular right now, no I had to experiment and create a recipe that I can pass onto you. Recipe success! If you are a fan of hot chocolate, you are going to LOVE this easy Hot Chocolate Bombs recipe.

So what are hot cocoa bombs? If you are unfamiliar, Hot Chocolate Bombs are chocolate “spheres” filled with hot cocoa mix, marshmallows and other delicious hot chocolate ingredients (think caramels, and peppermints).

To enjoy these chocolate bombs, simply place one at the bottom of a mug and then pour hot milk over top, stir and enjoy.

Semi-sweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, or white chocolate chips

Instant cocoa mix

Mini marshmallows

Red melting chocolate

Green melting chocolate

Christmas sprinkles

Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate chips are fully melted.

Add a spoonful of melted chocolate inside one cup on the silicone mold and use the back of the spoon to spread the chocolate up the sides of the mold. Set the remaining chocolate aside to use later.

Allow the chocolate to set completely. When the chocolate is set, remove each of the chocolate pieces from the mold. Add a small amount of instant hot cocoa mix to half the pieces and top the hot cocoa mix with marshmallows and half the sprinkles.

This is where you can get creative and add different filling ingredients….think caramels, peppermint, sprinkles, marshmallows….have fun with it.

Reheat the chocolate in 15-second intervals until melted. Pick up an empty chocolate piece and dip the edges into the melted chocolate. Carefully place it on top of a filled piece and lightly press it into place. Use your finger to smooth melted chocolate around the seam. Continue until all the chocolate bombs are sealed.

Melt the red and green chocolate according to the package instructions, then place the melted chocolate into piping bags. Drizzle the chocolate over the top of the bombs to decorate. Sprinkle remaining sprinkles over the top of the bombs.

How To Use Hot Cocoa Bombs

Place a bomb in the bottom of a mug. Pour one cup of steaming hot milk over the top of the bomb to melt the chocolate. When the chocolate is completely melted, stir to combine.

Ingredients

  • 1 12-ounce package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 packet instant cocoa mix
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • ¼ cup red melting chocolate
  • ¼ cup green melting chocolate
  • ¼ cup Christmas sprinkles
  • 6 cups hot milk to make the bombs
  • Round silicone mold

Instructions

  1. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second at a time, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate chips are fully melted.
  2. Add a spoonful of melted chocolate inside one cup on the silicone mold and use the back of the spoon to spread the chocolate up the sides of the mold. Repeat this process until all the molds are coated.
  3. Save the remaining chocolate aside for sealing and decorating the bombs.
  4. Allow the chocolate to set completely, around 2 to 3 hours. You can speed up the process by placing the chocolate in the refrigerator.
  5. When the chocolate mold is set, remove each of the chocolate pieces from the mold. Add a small amount of instant hot cocoa mix to half the pieces and top the hot cocoa mix with marshmallows and half the sprinkles.
  6. Reheat the chocolate in 15 second intervals until melted. Pick up an empty chocolate piece and dip the edges into the melted chocolate.   7. Melt the red and green drizzling chocolate according to the package instructions, then place the melted chocolate into piping bags. Drizzle the chocolate over the top of the bombs to decorate. Sprinkle remaining sprinkles over the top of the bombs.
  8. Allow the chocolate decorations to set before using, around 1 hour.
  9. To make the hot chocolate bombs, place the bomb in the bottom of a mug. Pour one cup of hot milk over the top of the bomb to melt the chocolate. When the chocolate is completely melted, stir to combine.
