Patient Meals
Each day, a Patient Nutrition Representative will come to the patient’s room and assist with meal selections. A paper menu will be provided upon request and for designated units. Contact a Patient Nutrition Representative at 4-3859 or 258-1810 with any questions or special food requests.
Special Dietary Needs
Check with a nurse or the Patient Nutrition Representative before offering food to a patient or, if you are a patient, before consuming foods that are not on the approved menu. Many patients are on special diets ordered by the physician because of the following criteria:
- The diet may limit food and drinks due to tests or a medical condition.
- Some medical procedures are necessary and the patient can’t be given anything by mouth (NPO) for several hours before the procedure.
- The physician has diagnosed an illness that could be helped by diet therapy.
Registered Dietitians
In conjunction with physicians and other members of the health care team, our registered dietitians provide individualized, age-specific nutrition plans to various inpatient and outpatient populations, including neonatal and pediatric intensive care, pediatric genetics, ketogenics, enteral and parenteral nutrition, medical and surgical intensive care, renal, burn, bone marrow and other transplants.
Registered dietitians are assigned to the patient units and can be reached by cell phone or pager. Ask your patient floor unit clerk for the Dietitian’s cell phone number. To contact a Dietitian after 5 p.m., call the hospital operator for the Dietitian on call (available until midnight). To contact a Dietitian during weekends, call the hospital operator for the weekend Dietitian pager number.
Special Occasions
UF Health is happy to provide a complimentary cake to celebrate a patient’s birthday. Please arrange 24 hours in advance by calling (352) 265-0111, extension 4-3859.
