Sainte-Cécile, the largest brick cathedral in the world imposes the appearance of a fortified castle and offers whoever pushes the door a striking collection of paintings, sculptures, statuary. 1st visited tourist site in the Episcopal City (UNESCO)
Albi Cathedral has the largest painted surface:
18 m² of frescoes and decorations make it the largest painted cathedral in Europe. It reads like an illustrated Bible.
Take the time to observe the colors, geometric patterns and trompe l'oeil sometimes introducing a note of humor. Follow the pillars with your gaze, raise your head towards the vault and appreciate the Italian Renaissance style decorations on a deep blue background, of mineral origin, created in 3 years of work (1509/1512). It is under the great organ that the oldest representation of the Last Judgment from the 200th century is held. It offers a fabulous comic strip where Heaven, Earth and Hell are depicted on more than 2 m7 of surface area. In the lower part, the punishments for the XNUMX deadly sins do not go unnoticed: it's up to you, try to recognize them... According to visitors, the interior of this cathedral leaves you speechless!
Another particularity of the cathedral: one of the last rood screens in France, this fence, made of finely chiseled limestone in Albi, divides the space into two parts, one formerly dedicated to the Bishop and the chapter. To see the polychrome statuary.

Parking spaces adapted for people with reduced mobility:
– several suitable spaces are located in the upper part of the Cathedral car park
– Behind the cathedral, along the cathedral wall rue de la Maîtrise / Place Monseigneur Mignot. To access it, visitors with disabilities must report to cathedral staff in order to obtain a remote control to lower the traffic bollard limiting access to these places.

Hearing impairment
For the hearing impaired, an audio guide (with sound amplification) is available at the entrance to the cathedral choir.
Physical disability
Visitors will be able to discover the building thanks to an access adapted for people with reduced mobility at the level of the North entrance of the cathedral (on the other side of the cathedral). We recommend that you access this entrance by the Place de la Trébaille then that of Monseigneur Mignot in order to avoid any difference in height.
Visual impairment
An audio commentary adapted for the visually impaired or blind is available via your smartphone.
