Easy Ways to Celebrate Saint Cecilia is a post by contributing writerDianna of The Kennedy Adventures.

Each month, to enrich our family’s faith journey, we pick a saint for a special focus.

As a family, we keep it simple most months with a coloring page or book. Other times, we get more involved, adding in crafts, activities, printables, or even movies.

Crafts to Celebrate Saint Cecilia

Crafts are not my favorite thing in the world, but my children adore them. Sometimes, I have to swallow my own distaste for the sake of a Saint Celebration!

These ideas are quick and simple, but still have plenty of fun factor for your children.

You’ll often see St. Cecilia pictured with a harp, so this Harp Craft works perfectly. Added bonus? You can pull this idea out again for St Brigid or St Patrick’s feast days as well.

For older children, this Harp of Gold is lovely.

Since St. Cecilia is the patroness of musicians, you don’t have to stick to the harp. Monica shares loads of ideas for DIY musical instruments to make this feast day fun for your family.

Peg Dolls

Bear with me — peg dolls might be a labor of love for some of you all (myself included). You can’t deny how completely adorable they are, and if you created some with your children, imagine the memories you’ll share!

You can get an idea for a St. Cecilia peg doll here from Jessica.

If you’re not up to the task of painting St Cecilia as a peg doll, never fear. You can find plenty of Catholic artisans over on Etsy to help you out. These St. Cecilia Peg Dolls are perfect for celebrating feast days, or even everyday play.

St Cecilia Paper Dolls

I haven’t played with paper dolls for many years, but these saint paper dolls are making me want to break out the scissors and markers again!

Looking for something a little more ready made? I found more St. Cecilia paper dolls over on Etsy.

Play Dress Up

Playing dress up is a huge part of pretend play in my home. You can help your daughters dress as Saint Cecilia with this idea for a homemade costume. (no sewing required!)

Foods to Celebrate Saint Cecilia

What better way to celebrate and learn about a saint than food?

In our home, saint celebrations and feast days are marked with a special dish, either from the saint’s country of origin or that share some connection to the saint’s life.

Since St. Cecilia was Roman, an Italian meal would be a delicious way to celebrate. Just whip up a lasagna or your favorite pasta dish for dinner.

Catholic Cuisine’s St. Cecilia’s Candy would be a fun (and amazingly simple) dessert following your Italian feast.

A liturgical tea is another way to bring a group together over delicious food to celebrate the saints. This would make a wonderful Catholic playgroup — invite a few of your friends!

Around our home, we use Catholic picture books to help teach our children about the saints. Each month, I take a look at the saints that we want to study, then create my list. During morning time, we set aside time to learn more.
